From the outside the Langham looks a bit like an office complex because of its glass-and-steel ribbing, but inside is a hotel designed to look thoroughly European in its opulence; parts of the lobby have more golden trimmings than the Vatican.
If you need further evidence of the European pretensions of this relatively new addition to Hong Kong's five-star hotel parade, look no further than the conference rooms, which bear names like 'Michelangelo' and 'Botticelli'. Even its hamburger-serving Main St Deli - allegedly New York-inspired - sports elaborate floor tiles and miniature chandeliers. The most expensive rooms here face the surrounding city, but if you're tired of looking at bright lights and pedestrian masses you can get a soothing courtyard room and save several hundred dollars in the bargain. The room decor is predictably elegant and some suites even manage the difficult feat of resembling aEuropean pension (a boarding house or small hotel).
